GeekDinner 4 Report

Hello All,

GeekDinner 4 was held at Sane Internet's offices. Sane provided drinks and tapas for us all to enjoy before getting down to an educational if somewhat technical presentation about Ajax. Judging by the questions asked those attending understood what Ajax is and how it can be implimented online - so mission accomplished...

Those attending included: Mauro Strione, John Williams (Sane Internet), Ian Mcloed, Simon, Ismael Ezerouali, Pablo Llaryora (Nexo Producciones Multimedia), Patrick Stapleton (Mercury Internet), Jonathon Drury (Words and Pictures), Mike Drury (gomarbella.com), Adrian Hill, Conor O'Connor (Sane Internet), Mark Russell.

During dinner at Garum we talked about how can Ajax be used to improve a users experience and the drawbacks.

You can down load Mauro's presentation here.

GeekDinner #3 Update

Roland Quesnel from Video Jug provided the spark for an interesting evening of discussion about video online, web TV and video content generation.

Roland explained the way of working behind their video production; shooting for HD TV with a view to being a content provider when digital TV comes of age; how they work with freelance teams to provide the content; and best practice methods for generating instructional videos. Video Jug has had more than 90,000 unique views in the first month with over 1,000,000 impressions ......  pretty impressive.

Video Just are also looking for quality, user generated content - for example, city guides. harnessing the power of the community and word of mouth and becoming an outlet for creative people - one of the best ways for the site to survive in the long term.

Marcel and Pablo Llaryora from Nexo Producciones Multimedia and Maruo Strone, software engineer, are currently working on an idea to create a web TV channel about living and working in Spain. In the way great ideas come along at the same time, Umesh Dhanji from D&Z Group and Adrian Stewart Hill, semi-retired entrepreneur and former Cisco network engineer, also had a similar idea. Many ideas were were thus discussed and exchanged.

Here is our group photo:

Maruo sugessted adding a feature to the blog so people can sign up to the next event with a short description of themselves. So we will be working on that this month - hopefully ready for the next dinner.

We are also open to new location suggesstions for the dinner - somewhere we we have access to internet and ideally a projector so we can give talks and show examples of work...

For me the evening was as stiumulating as it was fun. I slept poorly last night processing the new information - but it was well worth it.
